The Boat

 Our boat is a 1978 Peterson 44” called Magnum, built in Taiwan.  We knew that we wanted a boat with an aft cabin, around 42 or 44 feet, which had proved its seaworthiness, and could safely and comfortably carry us across oceans. After searching around for a little while, we came upon Magnum and it seemed to fit our profile.  The previous owner had a new hard dodger installed in Australia and this was one of the main features that attracted us to Magnum. We think a hard dodger is a must have to protect against the harsh elements when out in the open sea.

We bought the boat from a feisty gentleman named Dusty who had mostly singled handed her around the world, but at the young age of 88 he reluctantly decided it was time to come back to land and sell her. We worked on the boat part time since purchasing it in 2001, to make her seaworthy for our voyage.
